Project 3: Channel Identity
Pre-Production - Week 9
Research & Idea Brainstorming
For this week, we were tasked to produce pre-production tasks for their project 3. Same as the previous project, students were to demonstrate the ability to explore and generate an abstract channel ident in any creative approach with consideration of good audio tempo and visually compelling video.
Requirements for Pre-Production:
- Idea Sketches (3 Pages)
- Moodboard (x 2 / 1080x1920)
- Storyboard (1 Page)
For this project, I will be creating a channel identity for MTV as well same as project 2. As MTV is known for their music, shows as well as news I wanted to show all of that to the viewers. Basically, my idea is to showcase what type of content MTV shows. The style of the video would include less images but more design elements and faster transitions. This project will be heavily text based as compared to project 2.
Moodboard, Colour palette and Storyboard
I wanted to incorporate 3D elements at first but I realized that I would not have enough time to do so.
Feedback: Looks okay and fine you should be good to go for your project. It is good you know what type of content you want to show.
Reflection: After completing the design proposal, I made sure I truly understand the feedbacks given from Mr Fauzi for project 2 and make full use of it for this project. This project will be heavily text based so I am excited to begin with this project!
Production & Post Production
After the design proposal, I proceeded to create the illustrations for this project. I used Adobe Illustrator. The design process is similar to project 2. Create all the scenes and then import the Ai files into After Effects. I began with the first scene. Here are my design process:
Adobe Illustrator Editing Process:

Fig 1.2 Scene 1 - Hand illustration
For scene 2, I wanted to add three black bars as I will be showing the "Music", "TV shows" and "News".
Fig 1.3 Scene 2 - Adding text and texture
Fig 1.4 Scene 2 - Adding yellow bar as sign of completion
Fig 1.5 Scene 3 - Desaturating image and referring to colour palette
In scene 3, I decided to add two images to make a transition. I also had to include the colour palette to make sure I stay within the palette.

Fig 1.7 Scene 7 - Overlaying text with different colour
Fig 1.8 Scene 5 - Editing composition
After completing all the scenes in Illustrator, I began editing in After Effects.
After Effects Editing Process:
Fig 1.9 Intro scene - Pop up effect editing
Fig 1.10 Intro scene - Finger position adjustment
For the intro scene, I added easy in to make sure the finger movement looks smooth when it presses the MTV logo button.
Fig 1.11 Scene 2 - Adjusting keyframes
Fig 1.12 Scene 2 - Scaling and opacity keyframes
For the third scene, the transition for it was quite challenging to make as it required a lot of adjusting simultaneously with other keyframes. I also really liked the effect i used which was the "CC Color Offset" which I find really interesting to play around with.

Fig 1.14 Scene 3 - Transition editing (Scaling and position)
Fig 1.15 Scene 3 - Effect applied to text (CC Color Offset)
After completing all the editing on After Effects, I began exporting the video as shown in fig 1.16 below.

Reflection: After completing all the editing in both Illustrator and After effects, I realized this time around the editing process was much smoother and faster compared to project 2 as I was already familiar with the effects and keyframes. I also made sure to keep in mind regarding the feedbacks given so I could do better for this project.
Afterwards, I exported the video to Premiere Pro and I uploaded the video to Youtube. Here is the final outcome for Project 2:
Project 3 - Channel Identity (Final Outcome)
Project 3 reflection: For this project, the design process in Illustrator was not as challenging compared to the previous projects as I focused more on design elements and body texts. I also felt like the editing process on After Effects was much smoother as I was starting to become more and more comfortable with editing the transitions as well as other things. Overall, I gave my best for this project but I still feel like I could improve on the visuals.
