INSTRUCTIONS
PROJECTS
Project 1: Pre - Production
For our first project which is the pre-production, we are to produce and manage an animation project
individually by using relevant programs and software that enable content, concept, audio and video design to execute tasks:
• Script writing
• (Storyboard - Characters, props and location design
Audio and SFX)
• Building Animatic (Displaying designs, color mood and
style – Sound breakdown)
We were told to model our own character and rig it for this project but Mr Kannan mentioned to us that we could use a pre-rigged character if we were unable to complete the modelling on time. He provided and recommended to us many good resources such as e-books to study character animation and the principles of animation.
- Audio Clip
For this project, I decided to animate the potion making scene from Alice in Wonderland. It is a scene where the white queen is making a potion to turn back Alice to her normal size. The part i will be animating is only 30 seconds. Below is the audio clip and video:
Alice in Wonderland - Potion Making Scene
Feedback: Mr Kannan said this is fine and I could proceed with this.
- Character Design
After getting the approval to animate this scene, I proceeded to create the storyboard, moodboard and character references (Proposal). First, I began with the character design. Here are my sketches and references.
My idea was to sketch a simple female character that portrays a young adult with long hair and basic clothing.

After gathering enough references and I got an idea on how I want to design my character, I started to sketch out the character design in Photoshop. I sketched three angles, which are the front, back and side. My character is very simple and sweet.

Feedback: The character looks fine and alright try sketching a three quarter view.
- Storyboard
Moving on, I proceeded to the storyboard stage of this project. It was quite difficult for me as I was confused whether I should re-animate the movie or create my own animation. I decided to go for re-animating the whole chosen scene as I did not have enough time. Here is my storyboard for this project:

After completing the first version of the storyboard, I showed Mr Kannan to get some feedbacks.
Feedback: Some of the scenes look flat and the angles could be better. Try to come up with new angles rather than just following the actual movie.
After receiving the feedback, I made some changes to some scenes especially the angles. Here is my second and final version.

- Animatics
After getting my storyboard approved, we are told to produce an animatic. I imported the scenes from Photoshop and compiled it in Adobe Premiere Pro. I added the audio clip as well.

Project 2: Production
- Assets Preparation + Blocking
Students are to execute the outcome of pre-production process from Task 1 by using relevant programs that enable animation creation process for: Layout, Animation, Clean up, Compositing, Render. For the background, I found a kitchen model set that fits my animation.

Feedback: I need to improve on the finger and hand movements.
- Final Editing
Due to not having much time, I could not give my best for the final editing. This is my best attempt for the final project:
I started off by polishing all the scenes as best as I could. It was difficult for me and it took a lot of patience. I remember Mr Kannan's advice so I also made sure there's a mirror in front of me for reference for the lip sync and acting.
