Final Project - 20 second animation teaser
Week 9 (28/05/2021)
For our final project, we are required to produce a 20 second animation teaser based on our story for Film Studies and Cinematography. This final project will also be combined with Film Studies and Cinematography's final project as well.
To begin with this project, we need to create an animatic before proceeding to the teaser. For that reason, I began working on my storyboard to choose the relevant and interesting shots for my animatic. Here are my chosen shots drawn from my storyboard.

After consulting with both Mr Martin and Ms Jennifer, they told me i am good to go however I felt like I could've chosen better shots to convey my story better. Here is my animatic for the final project:
Animatic (Draft)
Feedback: Mr Martin said that the third scene is unnecessary and I should remove it because I have quite a lot of shots already.
Final Animatic (Final Project)
After completing the animatic, I proceeded to creating the 20 second animated teaser. I began with designing the backgrounds first. I used both Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

For the fifth shot which is at the dentist, my idea was to create a background with bright colours so that when my character starts imagining the differences is obvious.
Fig 1.11 First draft dentist (Fifth shot)
From the first draft, I felt like the colours I used were clashing with each other and it did not look like how i envisioned it to be. It looks too messy and does not resemble a dentist that much. So I decided to make further adjustments.

Feedback: Mr Martin told me to add colours such as blue and make the tone cooler. The green colour makes it look too warm.

After completing all the background designs, I worked on Adobe Animate for the teaser. At first I was confused on how to do everything on Animate but after getting some guidance from my seniors and friends, they told me to do scene by scene and do the composition in After Effects or Premiere Pro. Here are some images of my work process:

Reflection: Throughout the course of completing this final project, I have learned to appreciate more animated films/movies even more because I know how challenging it is to produce one! To produce a 20 seconds teaser was extremely time consuming and can get very tough sometimes. I felt like my final project could have been better but I did the best I could. I still need to practice more for my next semester and I would love to create more animations in the future.
