Project 2: Booklet Visual Design

Week 7 (13/05/21) - Booklet Design Mood Board

To start off with the booklet design, I did some research for the booklet design style on Pinterest that is appropriate and relevant for my dissertation research topic. After gathering enough resources, I begin creating a mood board for the designs. The images were embedded and well arranged in the google presentation slides. Moreover, I had browsed through the website visiting the adobe pages as well as other design websites to obtain the design materials and resources for the publication design. The design materials collected including the fonts, colour palette for booklet background as well as the design elements and icons.

Week 8 (08/04/21) - Independent Learning Week (ILW)
- No class due to independent learning week.

Week 9 (15/04/21)

This week, I started to create the first draft of the booklet design in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and create my own design elements based on my mood board. The designs were based on the visual reference that i had gathered earlier.

For my cover page, I decided to create two versions as I was quite indecisive on which one to go for. The first design, which is more "cute" and "animation-like" portrays a fun visual and childlike. The character is in 2D and the design elements surrounding it is in 3D. For the second draft, i decided to create something that involves a 3D character with 2D elements. The colour palette is similar in both designs.

After asking for feedbacks from my close friends and family, they said it doesn't represent my research topic clear enough. They could not see the 3D objects floating around the character as it is not obvious enough. However, the character looks really nice and cute. From that, I decided to switch up the design. I made the character in 3D and elements in 2D to represent "hybrid animation" which is my research topic.

After finalizing the cover page, I proceeded to design the other pages of the journal on Adobe InDesign.

Week 10 (22/04/21)

This week I showed Dr Hayati my journal progress so far as I was halfway through in completing the e-journal design.

Feedback: After consulting with Dr Hayati regarding the journal progress so far, she commented on my body text's colour. Using the colour white for the body texts might decrease the legibility of it so I need to be careful on using that colour excessively. From that, I decided to change it to dark blue.
